Edinson Cavani: Neymar is more than welcome to join PSG

Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani has admitted that he would welcome the prospect of playing alongside Neymar ahead of the 2017/18 season.

The Brazil international has been widely tipped to leave the Camp Nou this summer with PSG prepared to trigger his hefty £196m release clause.

Cavani notched 49 goals in an impressive season for the Capital outfit last term, but he still feels the need to work on the technical side of things after he missed a number of clear-cut chances to score including four in the 1-1 Champions League draw against Arsenal.

Speaking in a press-conference in Miami, Cavani was asked about the potential arrival of Neymar for which he insisted that new players are welcome to the club, he said: "If any new player joins the club, he'd be more than welcome."

Initially, many thought that Neymar's potential switch to Parc des Princes could be a fluke, but the move appears closer by the day with the Brazilian due to travel to Qatar in midweek to undergo a series of medical tests with the French giants. A number of Neymar's teammate have tried convincing the attacker, and Pique recently admitted that it is up to the Brazilian to decide on his future.

The World Cup winner said: "There is no better place than with us and we have tried to convince him of that. The French league, with all due respect, if you don’t win the Champions League there then he is not going to get the recognition that he deserves playing there. It’s not up to me to say if he stays or goes. He is the one who has to say that. But I hope that he stays.’ 'If any new player joins the club, he'd be more than welcome."

Despite his success in recent seasons, Neymar has never been known as the main man for Barcelona, and he is planning to step out from the shadows of Lionel Messi in order to prove his worth to a new club.
