Hard Work from Edinson Cavani Is Paying off, says David Trezeguet

Former French international David Trezeguet believes that Paris St Germain are being pushed to new heights by none other than Edinson Cavani.

The club managed a 4-0 rout of Barcelona, widely regarded as one of the best teams in the world, in the last 16 of the Champions League. Even though Angel di Maria scored two goals in the game, it was a result largely masterminded by the brilliant centre forward performance of Edinson Cavani. For long, Cavani sat in the shadows of Zlatan Ibrahimovic. There were even rumours about the player considering a move away from the French club as a result of being consistently played out of position despite having cost more than £ 60 million from Napoli.

This season, though, Cavani has truly blossomed with the striker managing to score 32 goals in as many games this season. Truly impressive is the fact that he has been able to score 7 goals in the champions league in seven appearances.

While there was no doubting the talent within the disposal of the Uruguay striker, he has been able to blossom this season due to the hard work, according to Trezeguet. Rumours about Cavani’s departure from the French capital have certainly died down. In fact, PSG are reportedly preparing a contract offer for the striker, who has less than 18 months left on his deal.

"This season, he is back playing in his favourite position. He is showing a lot of drive and enthusiasm and works hard to make himself available to his teammates. He is also showing a lot of power -- he is an exceptional player! PSG have been dominating Ligue 1 for a long time now. Having a side going toe to toe with them lifts the overall level of the league,” said Trezeguet after the demolition of Barcelona in the Champions League.
