PSG Bounce Back From Madrid Loss

French soccer giants Paris St-Germain have bounced back from their loss to Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 first leg loss. They played very well but counter attacking football from their hosts left them staggering ahead of the return leg.

PSG now trail 3-1 ahead of the return leg in two weeks in Paris. The team, which many are hoping would stun the European champions, returned to winning ways as they hosted Strasbourg in the Ligue 1. Edison Cavani, who struggled against Madrid and had to be substituted, returned to goalscoring, netting twice and writing his name in gold in the annals of history at the club. The Uruguay international made it 86 goals – the most by any PSG player. Julian Drxler, Neymar Jr. and Angel Di Maria also scored to complete the five goal rout.

The visitors had gone ahead first, scoring within the first six minutes. Jean Eudes Aholouand Kenny Lala combined to stun the fans at Parc des Princes. PSG responded within minutes, with the German youngster beating goalkeeper Alexandre Oukidja with his left footed effort. In the 21st minute, an impressive Neymar doubled the hosts’ advantage. He connected to a cross from Lo Celso and fired it towards goal but the keeper stopped the first attempt. Neymar collected the ball and slotted it home without any errors the second time.

Within a minute of Neymar’s goal, PSG added another following an error by Pablo Martinez. He passed to the back from the kickoff and Di Maria capitalized on the error. In the second half, the Argentine had more chances but he failed to add more to his tally. Javier Pastore sent Cavani through and the striker converted for his first goal in the 73rd minute. Six minutes later Neymar with an assist saw Cavani grab a brace to send PSG 15 points clear in the Ligue 1.

BENITEZ SETTLES ROW WITH RAMOS

Rafael Benitez has sorted out his differences with one of his prominent players Sergio Ramos. The two gentlemen were not happy about each other’s work in Madrid derby which ended in a draw.

Benitez was of the view that the penalty that Ramos conceded could have been avoided and the game could have fallen in Real’s bag.

BENITEZ SETTLES ROW WITH RAMOS

Ramos, then, hit back at his manager saying that he was not spot on with his substitutions either – something that was backed up by punters who had placed bets via bet-bonuscode.co.uk.

However, as per the sources, there was a telephone conversation between the duo last night and both agreed to the fact that it was not right to reveal those sorts of views in public and on the occasions in future, they should take care of that.

Benitez has been in the firing line of late despite the fact that Madrid has got positive results quite consistently under him this season.

The experts are quite critical of his tendency of not adopting an aggressive approach even when the team is in a good position in the game.

Real took the lead in the derby that was played the day before yesterday, but, they looked to sit on that lead rather than trying to double it up.

In the opinion of some of the experts who have covered the Spanish Football a lot, a cautious approach is understandable when the team, that is at your disposal lacks quality, but, when you are managing a team like Real, you should not mind taking a few risks.

However, Benitez, quite clearly, does not look prepared to do that at present. Madrid’s position in the points table of the Spanish top division at present is no. 2. They are trailing by just one point.

HIGUAIN WILL STAY

Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain has reportedly turned down the opportunity to join Chelsea and Manchester City in the summer according to his father.

The Argentine Gonzalo Higuain has been a huge success at Real Madrid, but he has struggled to get first team opportunities of late due to the form of Karim Benzema.

José Mourinho has often resorted to using the French striker Karim Benzema for the big games. It has apparently made Gonzalo Higuain extremely unhappy, which has led to rumours linking him with Premier league clubs Manchester City and Chelsea.

It is thought that Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is personally interested in signing Gonzalo Higuain in the summer. Chelsea could make a bid that will start at around £ 35 million according to Spanish sources.

However, Gonzalo Higuain’s father has said that his son would like to stay with Real Madrid and that there has been no contact with either Chelsea or Manchester City up until now. The 24-year-old striker recently scored his 100th goal in Spain in the match against Osasuna. He has so far scored 25 goals in all competitions this season, despite being used marginally by José Mourinho.

While Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is a personal fan of Gonzalo Higuain, Roberto Mancini is someone who is extremely keen on the player as well. It is thought that in just a City are looking at the replacement of Mario Balotelli with an equally physical player. Gonzalo Higuain seems to have suited them just fine.

“There is nothing in it. He has four years left on his contract and they love him very much,” said Jorge Higuain in response to the transfer speculation surrounding his son. Chelsea are expected to lose Didier Drogba in the summer, and Gonzalo Higuain is being lined up as the potential replacement.
