Speaking to Tuttosport, Lukaku said that he was clear with the thoughts of leaving the Red Devils after things failed to work out for him during the previous campaign, he told: “One bad year can happen to everybody, and I was done. It was a difficult situation. I had to make a decision over going somewhere where I can learn other aspects of my game and work with somebody that wanted me as well. Ole wanted me to stay but I told him it was over. I didn’t have the energy. All credit to him because he’s been a man and he helped me make the move away.”

Meanwhile, when pressed further on the future of the striker, Solskjaer said that the club are not considering any bids at the moment and the forthcoming week should give a clear indication over the Belgian’s position, he added: “Let’s see when the season starts. We have not had any bids that we are considering. You guys will know something next week.”

Inter are currently around £12m short of United’s £75m valuation for the striker and there has been no indication that they would improve on the package. Nonetheless, they continue to remain optimistic regarding a potential deal for the Belgian, given the striker himself has talked up the prospect of playing under new boss Antonio Conte.

United have already acquired the services of Daniel James and Aaron Wan-Bissaka for the summer and reports have indicated that the club could now pursue a new central defender. Harry Maguire from Leicester City has been earmarked as the prime target but so far, they have not reached an agreement for the transfer. United have failed with bids of £65m and £70m for the former Hull City man. The Foxes are deemed to value the centre-back at around £80m.
