Lazio manager laments on the club dropping points against Sassuolo

Lazio head coach Simone Inzaghi has said that his team controlled the game against Sassuolo and were unfortunate not to come up with the maximum points on the day. The Serie A side dominated the proceedings for most of the encounter but they were eventually left scrambling for the stalemate after Senad Lulic’s dramatic 95th minute leveller for them.

Speaking after the game, Inzaghi felt that his side deserved the maximum points from the league meeting and must remain positive despite the high-scoring draw, he told Sky Sport: “My players really did well today that’s for sure. Sassuolo? They didn’t create much and we didn’t give them much yet we only got one point on the night. Goals against? We will have to review this that’s for sure. We controlled the game from start to finish and we deserved all three points. We have to stay positive since we are close to the 4th place and we do have a game in hand.”

“Lazio had seven shots on target during the encounter but they managed to find the scoresheet on only two occasions“. Comparing to that, Sassuolo were highly efficient in the frontline and they managed to find the net with both attempts on target. Despite the result, Lazio remain within three points off the top four with a game in hand, but they may need to better the head-to-head record against the likes of AC Milan and Atalanta during the forthcoming weeks to enhance the “prospects of securing Champions“ League football next term.

Inzaghi’s side return to league action next weekend where they are scheduled to face AC Milan on the road and the game offers them with another chance to beat a top-four rival. The Rossoneri were one of the most in-form teams until February, but their form has since dropped off with three defeats and just one draw from the previous four matches.

Gennaro Gattuso urges AC Milan to remain focused in top four pursuit

AC Milan manager Gennaro Gattuso has urged his players to remain focused on the forthcoming matches as the club seek to push for a top four finish to the season. The Rossoneri have been lingering around the Champions League positions in the past few months but they are currently trailing fourth-placed Lazio by two points with a game in hand.

Speaking in a press conference, Gattuso highlighted that the club have never been in the top four running in the past few years but they have the perfect opportunity to make amends for the same. Barring Atalanta, the Rossoneri have four of the next five matches against teams in the bottom half of the standings but Gattuso has stressed that the squad must face each opposition with the same concentration and desire.

“For the last six or seven years, Milan have reached the spring and not even been in the running for a Champions League spot“. We must take it one game at a time, but be in a strong position to go for it. Our next few fixtures might seem easy on paper, but there is nothing easy in Serie A and this’ll tell us if we’ve matured. We “must face every game“ with concentration and desire, that’s the secret. I want to see a Milan side that doesn’t allow the opposition to attack. I’d happily win every match 1-0,” he said.

Milan are scheduled to face Cagliari at the San Siro this weekend and the faithful will be expecting the three points to propel them back to the fourth position. The Rossoneri’s main concern has come about from their restricted scoring prowess during the current campaign but their fortunes could change during the forthcoming months with winter recruit Krzysztof Piatek in the form of his life. Piatek has already netted three goals for Milan and he is currently the league’s fourth highest scorer with 14 goals on the board.
